sealord > A female masked crab, Corystes cassivelaunus, dug up from the beach in Belle Greve Bay on Guernsey's east coast.  A bait digger unearthed two masked crabs by locating holes in the sand where their antennae stuck out.  Their antennae have setae (like hairs) on the inside of the antennae, which make a tube for the crab to breathe through while living in the sand.

sealord > This moribund Nereis ragworm was collected from the shore at La Valette on Guernsey's east coast.  The worm was lying in a shore stream in the open and was vulnerable to sea bird predation.  It had most likely spawned recently.

sealord > This large worm, Marphysa sanguinea, which can grow up to 60 cm long is known as 'verm' in Guernsey.  It is a popular bait for recreational anglers.  Anglers use a fork to dig this worm out of the gravel and mud of the sea-shore. This individual was captured in Belle Greve Bay on Guernsey's east coast.
