sealord > This image was taken about 15 minutes after high water as a wave breaks against the granite wall protecting the coast road from Havelet Bay. Several waves did crash over the wall and seawater flowed to the opposite side of the road but the road remained open. High tide was forecast for 0815 at 9.8 metres but due to a low barometric pressure of 973 mb Hg the tide rose to a height of 10.7 metres according to Captain Peter Gill, St. Peter Port's harbour master. The wind was blowing from the south-west so the east coast was protected from the worst weather. Captain Peter Gill informed me that in 1948 the tide reached a height of 11.3 metres in St. Peter Port when the wind blew from the south-east. At that time the sea rose high enough to complete cover some of the St. Peter Port harbour quays. File No. 100308 3556 ©RLLord fishinfo@guernsey.net

sealord > Strange World: This is a mirror image of the St. Peter Port harbour breakwater and lighthouse at 0930 on 3 December 2004 during a force 10 southerly wind. As it was December I stuck our Christmas tree over the top of the lighthouse.

I took all the surrounding images of the stormy sea on 2 December 2005 at about 0900 during a southerly wind of force 8 or 9.
