The Electric Vehicle Company successfully converts petrol powered cars to battery power by removing the engine and installing lithium batteries and an electric motor.  A computer controls the battery output.  These cars have a range of at least 60 miles, which is more than adequate for a daily driving range in Guernsey.  The Smart EV has an energy equivalency rating of 270 mpg.  It contains 24 lithium batteries that produce 10 to 12 KW.

The Electric Vehicle Company in Rocquaine Bay, Guernsey researches the conversion of petrol powered cars and vans and converts them to battery power.  Currently the company has converted from petrol to electric power the Smart car, the Fiat Panda, the Citroen C1 (and the Peugeot 107 which is the same) and a van.
